In this lesson we explore a powerful harmonic concept that every bass player should understand: chromatic passing chords.

We’ll start with a progression that creates tension using chords outside the key and then resolve everything into a strong ii–V–I progression in E major.

Along the way we break down each chord, talk about why the movement works, and show how bass players can outline these changes clearly on the instrument.

1. Play the progression slowly with root notes only

2. Add thirds and sevenths to outline the chords

3. Loop the F#m7 → B7 → Emaj7 section to internalize the ii–V–I resolution
