In this lesson, we dive into a crazy (but surprisingly simple!) slap bass exercise that’ll seriously level up your speed, technique, and groove. 🚀
We break down the core pattern — Slap, Hammer, Hammer, Pluck — and show you exactly how to lock it in across the fretboard.
Even if it sounds tricky at first, we promise: once you get the feel, it becomes second nature!
🎸 Make sure to follow along with the video for the technique and check the written breakdown for reference.

Just say “Thumb”! I’m a big fan of your thumping technique anyway. Not sure why, but your tone here and on the live from 1 May 2025 sounded incredible. Thanks for all of it.
Also, regarding questions (at least for me, but maybe for other members as well) most times, I know the correct answer is “slow down, and perform the action as a drill to smooth it out”, so I feel kind of silly asking. I’m not afraid to ask though. I’m learning from all of these.
Hey Teddy! I like thumb as well! LOL. There’s so many terms that people have come accustomed to so it’s hard to rewire the brain! Thanks for the compliment though man. Gotta go back and listen to those lives and try to recreate it lol. Have no idea what I did different but it must have been something because several people have said the same. Also, you’re absolutely right. It’s a matter of slowing it down and being super particular and specific about every movement. It may be something small that’s missing that would possibly connect the dots. In the future if you’re ever struggling with a specific technique you’re trying to get just record yourself and upload so I can visually see what the problem could be. Like I said it could be a simple fix sometimes 🤟🏾
