    1. Thanks! This is definitely a strengthening exercise. To answer your question, to truly “master the fretboard” you need to be comfortable shifting. I’ve been playing for 20 years and it’s still tough for me not to look down at all although I’ve developed exercises to help with this. I would recommend you check out the 2 octave scale tutorials that will allow to shift comfortably and cover more ground without having to look

  1. Hey Daric
    I have practiced the DT technique without having to recourse to hammerons. while uncomfortable initially, my mind has gotten used to that shift coming down. Is it ok to just have alternating up/down thumb strokes through out while going up or coming down?

    Note – it is nowhere near the speed at which you do it 🙂
