Daric,Thanks. Great exercise to get my pinky going. What exercise would you recommend to learn the fret board without looking at it the entire time I’m playing? Thank you.
Thanks! This is definitely a strengthening exercise. To answer your question, to truly “master the fretboard” you need to be comfortable shifting. I’ve been playing for 20 years and it’s still tough for me not to look down at all although I’ve developed exercises to help with this. I would recommend you check out the 2 octave scale tutorials that will allow to shift comfortably and cover more ground without having to look
Thanks. Will do.
Love that exercise brother! Any exercise books you can recommend for advanced players where scales, modes, and everything in between is used and puts you to work?
is there a pdf thats downloadable for this exercise?
Hey BassMomma! Yes there is, it should be available to download right above this video! Let me know if you don’t see it and I’ll get that to you ASAP
Hey Daric
I have practiced the DT technique without having to recourse to hammerons. while uncomfortable initially, my mind has gotten used to that shift coming down. Is it ok to just have alternating up/down thumb strokes through out while going up or coming down?
Note – it is nowhere near the speed at which you do it 🙂
Thanks!
Hey Are you referring to this exercise?
Thanks thats the excersise …. i am trying to develop vocabulary using 16 th notes this will help a lot
My bad :-). I thought i was on the Mastering The Double Thumb lesson. comment holds nonetheless.
great lessons Daric!! love them
Came across this vid on YouTube the other day. Working on this “not so strong” pinky.
Yea man. I need to go back this one myself lol. Didn’t realize how tough this was. Once I started to focus on my pinky strength my playing changed drastically
