Bass Practice Routine: Major 7 Arpeggio Workout
n this video, we dive into a killer Major 7th-based exercise that came straight out of a Sunday church groove session. It hit me mid-performance—and I just had to capture it before it slipped away. This simple yet powerful pattern is built from a Major 7 arpeggio and is super melodic, diatonic, and easy to work into real playing situations.
We walk through it step-by-step, explore how to transpose it between keys (E Major to A♭ Major), and talk about why you should always try new exercises in context. It’s a short, repeatable lick that sounds advanced but is built on easy-to-grasp ideas. Add it to your practice toolkit, and start unlocking smoother, more intentional lines today.

Of course I say I needed everything, but I NEED this!! This will help me with recognizing the notes in relation to how my hand is positioned. It will help to keep me from getting lost, which happens often. I just happened to get a chance to sit with one of these Chicago bassist recently, and he demonstrated all of this fretboard fluidity (like you just did) that I’m working towards. Posting a vid to show my progress shortly!! Teddy
