Chromatic Crisscross Exercise
#BASSNATION In this week’s lesson I’ll be going over a great exercise for you to build up your dexterity. We’ll be moving a line chromatically and diagonally across the strings. This will not only help you to strengthen all of your fingers but also get you more comfortable playing notes in different positions on the fretboard as the frets move closer up the neck.

Very nice exercise. Thanks. Now that I’m older, I find that I have occasional joint pain in my hands whether playing bass or not because of arthritis I guess. Do you do any specific hand exercises or stretching while not playing? BTW, I still call the 4th finger a pinky. lol
Hey Scott that’s interesting. Not sure what would be causing that. Is more in your wrist or in your fingers/knuckles?
Both fingers and knuckles. It’s not bad but don’t recall ever having issues. I have been practicing way more than I ever used to and I am now an older guy. Was just wondering if you had a separate hand routine. Of course, if it would get worse, I’d see a doc. Thanks for getting back with me.
Absolutely, no problem. So, I’ve never personally had this specific issue but it could possibly be several factors. Could be a technique issue or an underlying issue. So no specific exercises that I can suggest other than simple stretching before playing. Bending each finger backwards from the tip and holding it for a few secs. Try that for now right before you play and see if it helps any
I’ll give it a try. I didn’t mean to hijack this post. Feel free to delete if you want. Thanks!
No worries! This is all great convo 👌🏾
When I came back to playing I used a exercise similar to this. It was and still is very useful. I’m going to add this my warm up . Thanks
