In this video, we explore the double thumb technique using the major scale as a great practice tool. We break down how the approach changes when ascending versus descending. Going up, we focus on downstrokes and upstrokes, and on the way back down, we incorporate pull-offs to keep things smooth and natural.
We also talk about how important it is to stay relaxed with our thumb. If we get too stiff, it’ll throw off our flow. The trick is finding that sweet spot where the thumb flicks just right – not too hard, just enough to maintain that signature slap sound. We take some time to address the upstroke, which can be tricky, and discuss ways to get it down comfortably.
This exercise is all about building control and getting used to the double thumb motion so it becomes second nature. If the technique feels challenging, we’ve got more exercises available in the academy to help us refine it even more. Just remember – it’s essential to know the major scale well before diving into the double thumb technique.
