I was checking out your lesson on 5/4 odd time. Couldn’t help but wonder how are you getting so much bottom out of that 4 string? Any added pedals? That thing is deeeep!! Any tips?
Thanks man! I guess it’s just a great bass, also I just try to balance out my eq so it doesn’t distort and and there’s not too much treble. No pedals here though 👍🏾
Thanks for your quick response. I want to get bavk to playing my 69 Fender jazz more but its passive. I have an external preamp to shape tone a little. Im old school and i’ve that old bass 47 years. 50 years old this year. But with todays Gospel music, the B string is king! Lol
I hear you! Tha definitely true to some extent. I’ve played 4 string on a bunch of records before, but it’s a little challenging. What’s your preference? Active?
Trying to keep up with the young stallions, I can appreciate an active bass. Just fof fun I would like to pull out the old 69 and make them wonder “who played that kind of bass”? Again thanks for your lessons. Love your teaching style.
Hi Daric,
Give a listen to the song “Unbroken Chain” by The Grateful Dead. I used to play that with a band and was initially thrown off by the timimg. Took some time to feel comfortable with it.
Will absolutely do that! Thanks for the suggestion. Always love discovering new songs with unconventional time signatures. Maybe I’ll do a lesson on that as well😎
ty lesson, been waiting for one like this. Lets see if I got this right or kinda close. If you do the 1/4 note version that gives you the 5 beats/notes (per) bar/measure. If you do the 1/8 note version you get 10 beats/5 notes (per) bar/measure.
Absolutely! You got it!
