you are saying “you dont wanna be the busy sounding bass player” – i have a question to that.
isnt it “legal” to be busy, if there is room in the song? funk for example sounds to me as if it´s leaving lots of room for the bass (on purpose?!)
and in general: when you don´t want to be busy but at the same time dont want to sound boring, i.e. just playing tonics of the chords or something, how do you achieve that?
are there classical “go to” points beneath thirds and fifths for example?
(and if i missed a video about this, please point me in the direction 😉 )
as i am actually in the situation where i have to come up with a bassline for a very calm song with a clean guitar and very “soft” singing. and whatever i come up with, it sounds either boring or fills up too much space.
any tips are greatly appreciated (from anyone btw 😉 )
oh and by the way:
you defintely should check out more from roy ayers. im pretty sure you will like pretty much everything from him.
“love will bring us back together” or
“sunshine” just to name a few are just great songs.
