Crazy Lick and Groove Lesson in D Minor
#BASSNATION I’ve got a quick lick and groove for you this week! The lick sounds super CRAZY but it’s actually a straight minor pentatonic scale. When you bring this scale up to speed it sounds like way more than it actually is! Grab your bass and dig in with me, as always take it at your own pace and make sure your notes are coming out clean, clear and precise!

Hi Daric, i love this groove! thank youIt’s hard for me to transcribe the awesome intro you made before the main riff from 0.05 sec up to 0.08 of the video, can somebody help me ?
Hey Mikal! It’s actually a very simple concept I’ll go over soon. The toughest thing about this riff is the timing, that lick you’re referring to starts on the “2” of the measure.
This cool, I even kinda’ sound okay as I slowly play up thru the D minor pentatonic, then down back to the F on E2 I mean! slowly Largo that’s on a good try lol. Any suggestions on were to go after F on E2.. as crawl around the bass.. Ty..
Hey! E2? not sure what you mean. Would be great to see where you are with this groove so I can be a better help 😎
ty, what I meant was after I play the F note on the E string 1st or top fret. Where is a good place to start over again. Or should I just play it backwards back down to the D note on G string 7th fret. Also I do like the one four fingering better.
I absolutely agree, the fingering just feels right on that section of the neck.
And I would work the lick back up the neck. Just literally playing the same exact notes in the opposite direction. That helps you learn the riff both ways.
Daric, I’m blown away that you picked that whole lick!!! (around 4:45) How’d you get that plucking speed and dexterity?
Ha! Thanks man, I really just focus on Percision and the speed comes afterwards. Spent lots of time on becoming clean. Playing everything slow and precise.
That’s the right focus, if you can’t be precise then fast will be just be sloppy! At what point do you incorporate hammer-ons/pull-offs into your playing? I’ve struggled with this transition. Used to play drums, same struggle with sticking individual hits vs. rolls. What’s your advice for where and how to transition between plucking and hammer-ons/pull-offs?
That is an awesome question. Believe it or not I actually started implementing that pretty early in my playing but it wasn’t on purpose lol. I’ll show you guys exactly how it can help and also how it can actually hurt your technique if you start too early
is there any way to get the backing track at the beginning daric?
