Minor Pentatonic Raking Exercise
#BASSNATION In this week’s lesson we’ll be diving into a pentatonic scale exercise but we’ll really be focusing primarily on the plucking hand! We’ll walk through this exercise both ascending and descending, making sure you’re paying close attention to your plucking hand and alternating your fingers. Focusing on your plucking hand during exercises like this will really give you an advantage as you grow as a player to develop your speed and accuracy. Grab your bass and dig in with me!

Daric – what advantage do you believe raking provides for this type of lick when compared to strict alternate plucking?
Hey Paul, good question. It’s just a smoother way to maneuver across the strings. To some it may be easier, to some may be a little bit more difficult but I just wanna give you the options of both. I find using this raking pattern allows more efficiency, and especially when dealing with speed
Hi Daric, great stuff! Love that lick near the end at mark 7:20 or so. Maybe a transcription of that speed lick? God Bless!
Ha! Yea man, that was actually a “sped up”version of the lick the was played in the beginning, But of course I’ll break that down as well! 🤟🏾
