#BASSNATION! I’m excited to announce the kickoff of my slap bass course! Part 1 of this Slap Bass Lesson Series is a beginner lesson to get all the bass guitar players that are new or interested in picking up a slap bass technique introduced in the correct way! There are options, and there is no “one way to do it” solution with any bass guitar techniques, but I will guide you in the proper direction and give you tips to make sure you develop techniques that work and will allow you to play clean, clear and precise!

That’s awesome bass brother! We’re just getting started! So much more to come!
Question….how hard are you hitting the strings with your thumb?
Hey, good question. I’m a actually not using that much force at all when attacking the string. Not much harder than a normal pluck with your index finger would be. After you get the hang of it you can try increasing the intensity and the amount of force to increase your dynamics
Learned a great lot on how you instructed this course. A N may God continue to bless you in your life.thank again
Thank you! Really appreciate that! Same to you
My thumb seems to always come to rest on the string I just played when I try to pop is there a way I can prevent this and keep my slap from sounding just like a thud or is supposed to sound this way.
Hey Fred it’s tough to tell if you’re doing something wrong without seein or hearing it. You can either upload a short clip of the problem you’re having in the forums or in the video qna section. Want to be able to help you thoroughly and understand your question fully
It seems like I am doing the technique right but by bass isn’t quite making the sound like yours does. Any thing I can trouble shoot first before posting a video?
I have just the same problem. Whatever I’m doing there is no such deep tone, and I only hear the strings noise sustained with a liitle bass tone.( Can’t win this battle so far…
Hey Edward and Jackson, not exactly sure exactly what you guys are referring as in the same sound?if you guys could possibly post a clip either here or in the forums I could maybe understand a little better. It malucha be just an eq issue. But I want to help as much as I can
I need help :\ my thumb hurts and my “slap” is more of a thud pls help 🙁
Hi Daric! I have a question for you : can we slap on any song? Thanks!
Generally you cana but is it needed? That’s a different question. Every song doesn’t cause for slap bass. Especially slower ballads
Okay thanks for your answer! I keep on watching the course to see if I fully understand the concept
Hello Daric – I’m a new member here,
What is the bass you are using for this lesson? Looks kinda like a Fender Jaguar, but seems to have extra PJ pickups?
hey good question, thats actually the same model just the squier version.
My question sometimes disappears, but is this the bass you used in this lesson? (but not made in this configuration any more) –> https://www.swingcitymusic.com/shop/fender-standard-jaguar-bass-black/
Here’s the bass used in this video

thank you so much for your reply, I got it the same day and I was amazed you respond that fast. I appreciate. which finger do you use to pop(pluck) 3rd finger or pinky?? I can’t seem to see it well on the videos, if it’s the pinky then the finger per Fred doesn’t apply. please help
What muting technique do you have for muting the B string when playing slap on a 5 string bass?
Tomorrow I’ll upload a video response explaining and demonstrating some of the ways this can be achieved, but for now one way this can be done is by muffling the B string with your fretting hand thumb or whatever fingering is floating and not playing notes on the fretboard. I’m sure that sounds a little confusing lol so I be sure to show that with my bass 👌🏾
