Songs in the Key of “Mode”??(ex: The Chicken -Jaco Pastorious
I get asked this question all the time pertaining to the key of a song. What you have to understand is that most songs don’t follow a strict guideline theoretically, so you have to know how to maneuver and identify not only what key the song is in but what mode it’s using as well.

Sorry I asked you this question in the messages. I asked you if I could mix up the modes in the scale like what you just did in this video
In this video you said the rules can be broken and in songs don’t except the lydian to always be the fourth and so on
But when I asked my question you sent me back your reply with the major scale with all the modes in order which I know but that didn’t answer my question but you answered my question in this video
So in a song or improvisation I can mix the modes and play a Mixolydian as the 3rd or dorian as the 7th etc etc so on and so forth.
Is that right Sir?
As long as it doesn’t clash with the chords that are written according to the song. You can’t just make up whatever you want. But as long as it matches the chord tones of how the song was written and what chords are being played along with it. That’s when I mentioned “within the confines of the song”. That’s what I was referring to
