and so much more!

Great Lesson. I love to hear these scales broken down. I especially like your advice about playing the scales extended and from different positions on the fretboard.
You lost me when you started playing the Dorian scale in thirds. Can you break that down for me? Thanks!
Hey Daric… disregard my previous post. You broke down the thirds in the next lesson. Got it! Thanks!
Ok great! I was just about to explain and go a little more in depth. Glad you were able to find an solution!
Lol connect the dots.. Funny but true. Learning the modes are opening up my mind to alot more. It’s just application that is my major challenge.
Sanjay! That’s so awesome, that’s just the way I see it! The bass fretboard becomes so visually pleasing once you see the patterns then it becomes easier to “connect the dots” 🙂
Yea this changes things for me. I didn’t have this when I was learning bass and I’ve been playing for years. Now it’s like I’m starting over because I learnt everything wrong
Wow! I’m just glad that I can help and that you’re on the right track now 👍🏾
It’s getting funky..!!!
You really did a great job with the explanation. I’d known the modes, but didn’t understand it.
But now, my mind is kinda open about modes and how to implement it in a song. Just about mixing those include notes avoiding playing it linearly.
That’s awesome! Experimenting is the best part. Being creative and see what you can come up with.
Yo bro.I just signed up today and I’m already sounding better..Im happy I did just wanna be one of the best💪
I liked how you applied the CMajor Arpeggio on D dorian. But my question is: Can you also apply FMajor Arpeggio while still on D Dorian as long as They’re all on the key of C????
Hey Daric,, u were mentioning about pattern shapes u remember for playing different modes .. Do you have any videos on Patterns shapes to remember.. it would be of great help for me to remember the modes 😅.

Thanks Daric that’s a great point…sorry for the late reply..!!! my friend was suggesting to study by a formula than of shapes, like
for example
Dorian its T,ST,T,T,T,ST,T and for
Ionian its its T,T,ST,T,T,T,ST
T–> tone or whole step and ST–> semi tone, or half step..
so based on these formula you can find out the extended notes as you go higher the fret…
Will that help too ?
Hey Alex, absolutely. Learning both ways is beneficial but for some people the formula can get a little confusing because of the repeating symbols. But whatever works best for you I say go with. It’s good to know both ways
It’s the same as the formula for the major scale and just shifting it to the appropriate “tone”

Got it 👍
You mention playing the Dorian scale and then are moving up and down the fretboard. If we are playing Dorian in the key of Cmaj is anything above the 8th frett or below the 5th another mode or how do you extend the mode? I’m trying to understand how each mode can sound unique if they are all truly the same notes. Thanks!
Hey, great question. Each mode has its own sound, but still uses the same notes of 1 scale. It’s all about which note is starts on. It’s easier for me to demonstrate this on my bass so I’ll record a response and upload soon. But in the meantime, you can watch this lesson that explains it a little bit further about how to understand the concept. It can be tricky in the beginning to totally understand. But once you get it, it’s a game changer. Stay tuned for the response video and like I said in the meantime, watch this lesson to hopefully help you understand the concept a little better.🤟🏾

Just what I needed, specifically around 3:40. Sounds like I need to work on two octave scales. Like you mentioned, my disconnect is translating from theory to bass. I want to know what the “right” place to play the note is, but thinking of it as a two octave scales with a different starting point is a helpful reference before grasping the specific shapes of each mode. Thanks again, appreciate it!
Daric, after you go over d Dorian using thirds, you go into a funk exercise. Any chance you have notation/ tabs on that including ghost and any passing notes?
Thanks, Mark
Hey Mark! I don’t think there’s notation for that specific example groove. I can try to notate that groove though for you as a special request
If not inconvenient, it would be a big help to me. So often I use just quarter notes for so many exercises, but you obviously use a variety, the sound and grove changes and comes alive.
hey Mark, havent forgotten about you, takes a sec for those types of transcriptions to complete so hopefully it’ll be ready soon. In the mean time, take a look at this lesson exercise implementing the ghost note concept and syncopation. Also I’m going to create a lesson/video around your question as well because i feel a bunch others can benefit from as far as notation/tab and transcribing so be on the look out for that as well very soon
