MODES COURSE – Part 4 – Understanding Dorian

  1. You really did a great job with the explanation. I’d known the modes, but didn’t understand it.

But now, my mind is kinda open about modes and how to implement it in a song. Just about mixing those include notes avoiding playing it linearly.

      1. Thanks Daric that’s a great point…sorry for the late reply..!!! my friend was suggesting to study by a formula than of shapes, like
        for example
        Dorian its T,ST,T,T,T,ST,T and for
        Ionian its its T,T,ST,T,T,T,ST
T–> tone or whole step and ST–> semi tone, or half step..

so based on these formula you can find out the extended notes as you go higher the fret…
        Will that help too ?

        1. Hey Alex, absolutely. Learning both ways is beneficial but for some people the formula can get a little confusing because of the repeating symbols. But whatever works best for you I say go with. It’s good to know both ways

It’s the same as the formula for the major scale and just shifting it to the appropriate “tone”
